Uninstall - Jan 2024
Introduction: This Project is about a character inside a game that is trying to escape being uninstalled and deleted along with the game and level they are in. It is a first person shooter/platformer.

What Went Right:
-
Tips and tricks - I was looking for ways to help my developing experience and I found videos that showed me simple things like shortcut commands to speed up my productivity. one in particular that i liked was the shift left clicking the coordinate data to quickly add it to another actor.
-
Making the keys - I found lots of resources to make doors with locks and keys to go with them but ultimately I didn't use that method. instead I came up with my own which detects when all 3 keys are collected and destroys the firewall blocking the escape.
-
designing the level paths - when i was drawing up the level paths i looked at other levels from games from the top down view. i then drew up my own level taking inspiration from other designs. i outlined my level paths using rectangles and then decided to change their heights and then chose to make them not connect completely and float in mid air.
-
Coming up with mechanics - Coming up with game mechanics came to me easily as i have had lots of experience with many game genres and their weaknesses and strengths. So i made a platformer and made mechanics to compliment the playstyle.
-
Theme and Aesthetic - I knew immediately what i wanted to do as soon as i saw the level box. The grid outline sparked a synth wave appeal to me that i had always wanted to design and show off.
What Went Wrong:
-
Making the presentation - i had a really rough time trying to make a top down map for my 3 floor level that overlapped in some areas.
-
making the Platform gun - I'm still working on the disc throwing platform gun. its difficult trying to figure out how to make the platform spawn in mid air and freeze in place.
-
Turrets - every time i tried to make the static mesh for the turrets unreal would simply freeze and crash on me so i lost a lot of time and patience while working on the turrets.
-
Minimum Viable Product - I kept getting hung up on my block mesh wanting to add and change things that i didn't need to when i really needed to work on my mechanics.
-
Time - I have always procrastinated and this time was no different. I should have focused more and had better discipline to work on my project instead of game.
Conclusion: In conclusion I enjoyed making my level and coming up with ideas and features if only i dedicated enough of my time to actually implementing said features i thought up.
